LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 29, 2017) – Angelle Sampey rode her PSE/Team Liberty Racing Victory Magnum Pro Stock Motorcycle to the second round of eliminations at the 17th annual NHRA Nationals after defeating Jerry Savoie in the first round.
Sampey came into raceday in the No. 9 position and had a first round matchup against reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Jerry Savoie. Three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Sampey nabbed over six-thousandths of a second over Savoie at the starting line and was able to take that advantage all the way to the finish line. Sampey not only left on Savoie on the starting line but she also beat him to the finish line as well with a 7.009-seconds pass at 188.25 mph over his 7.044, 189.82.
“I said I was putting that Cajun on the trailer and sending his alligator butt back home,” Sampey laughed at the top end after her first round victory. “I’ve got a mission today and I gotta do this for my team. I gotta do this for Cory because unfortunately he didn’t qualify and I gotta do it for the guys back at the shop because they’re working so hard.”
Second round, Sampey remained consistent with a 7.002, 190.14 against current points leader Eddie Krawiec but a -.006-thousandths red light thwarted her chances of advancing to the semifinal round. Krawiec’s troubled 11.547, 70.41 advanced.
“I’m mad because he didn’t make it to the finish line,” she admitted. “He said he broke and that adds salt to the wound with that red light. I changed up my routine that round and I know I should’ve have done that; that was a mistake. Regardless, I’m proud of how my bike ran this weekend and I’m proud of my team. Time to focus on 2018.”
