LAS VEGAS, Nev. (October 28, 2017) – Shane Tucker powered the Gray Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro to the No. 14 spot after four rounds of qualifying at the 17th annual NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas. In his borrowed Shane Gray ride, he will take on Bo Butner in the first round and hope to play a part in how the championship points turn out.
On Friday, Tucker jumped in the Gray Motorsports Camaro for the first time and clocked in with a 6.741-seconds pass at 204.23 mph landing him in the No. 12 spot. He showed that consistency is the name of the game when he crossed the finish line at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a 6.749, 204.98 in Friday’s evening session.
“I feel pretty comfortable in the car,” Tucker said. “I’ve done a few laps in these Pro Stock cars and they all feel the same. The Gray Motorsports guys did a good job making sure my seat insert fit well so it wasn’t too much of an adjustment.”
It was a 6.763, 203.19 that lit up the scoreboard in Tucker’s lane in the opening session on Saturday. Tucker closed out his qualifying efforts with a slowed 6.770, 202.61. His qualifying efforts put him in the No. 14 spot and granted him a first round matchup against Bo Butner; the pair has raced in the first round the last three races.
“Honestly, we should be able to run with him,” Tucker said about competitor Bo Butner. “We’re putting in a new motor for tomorrow because we saw something potentially wrong with the one we’ve been running this weekend. I think we can make a run for him and if we leave with him or a little bit before him at the tree, I think we could turn on the win light.”
