Team Liberty Race Recap: 63rd annual U.S. Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 4, 2017) – The 63rd annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals is the biggest race of the season and it brought out the best for Team Liberty Racing’s Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey. They both came up short in the first round but they came away with their heads held high with solid horsepower in eliminations after a challenging bout in qualifying on their PSE/Team Liberty Racing Victory Magnums. In the first round, Reed qualified No. 14 and had a first round matchup against Hector Arana Jr. As they both left the starting line, Reed’s .018-second reaction time blazed ahead of Arana Jr. and he carried that .054-second starting line advantage all the way until the 1,000-foot mark at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Reed clocked in with a 6.976, 190.54 but was narrowly defeated by Arana Jr.’s 6.891, 194.74. “I knew I left on him and I could tell I was ahead down track,” the 2016 Rookie of the Year Reed said. “I thought I had him until I looked up and didn’t see the win light on in my lane. All in all, we’re leaving the U.S. Nationals on more of a positive note than I thought we were going to after the challenges we had in qualifying. I’m proud of this team and I’m proud of the way I drove today.” In her 220th career start, Sampey qualified No. 15 and staged her PSE/Team Liberty Racing Victory Magnum up against Andrew Hines. The three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle World Champion clocked in with her best run of the weekend 6.933, 193.35. Giving it her best run of the weekend, Andrew Hines’ 6.882, 197.22 was ultimately the one that turned on the win light and advanced to the next round. “When I got the time slip, I was already calculating what kind of light I needed to beat Andrew,” Sampey said. “I’m really hard on myself. I know what our PSE/Team Liberty Racing is experiencing right now is growing pains and I respect it all; I know how sweet victory is going to be when our luck turns around.” CORY REED, PSE/TEAM LIBERTY RACING VICTORY MAGNUM Qualified: No. 14 First Round: Hector Arana Jr. (6.891, 194.74) defeated REED (6.976, 190.54) ANGELLE SAMPEY, PSE/TEAM LIBERTY RACING VICTORY MAGNUM Qualified: No. 15 First Round: Andrew Hines (6.882, 197.22) defeated SAMPEY (6.933, 193.35)
