DENVER, Co. (July 24, 2017) – Team Liberty Racing’s Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey took on the cream of the crop at the 38th annual Mopar Mile High Nationals during eliminations this weekend at Bandimere Speedway.
In the first round, Reed began raceday from the No. 10 spot and had a first round matchup against Jerry Savoie. Reed clocked in with a consistent to qualifying 7.307-second pass at 181.35 mph but Savoie’s 7.239, 183.69 was enough to barely edge out Reed and advance to the second round.
“I’m a little disappointed,” Reed said. “It sucks to keep losing and it’s wearing on everyone. I’m glad it’s wearing on everyone though because it’d be weird if everyone was okay with it. We’re still very motivated and I know eventually the luck will be on our side.”
In Sampey’s first round matchup, she took on Andrew Hines from the No. 11 spot. The PSE/ Team Liberty Racing group gave her the best tune-up of her weekend and she blazed across the finish line with a 7.256, 183.32. Although she ran the best pass of her weekend, Hines’ 7.197, 186.85 would advance to the next round.
“I had a feeling I was going to run well against Andrew because he really does bring out the best in me,” Sampey said. “We want to beat them bad. I really tried hard to cut a better light but the bike spun a little at the starting line. We’ll have something for that team next time.”
Team Liberty Racing will head to Sonoma Raceway this coming weekend for the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals July 28th-30th, 2017. Qualifying will begin on Friday, July 28th at 4:15 p.m.
