JOLIET, Ill. (July 8. 2017) – Allen Johnson will take on the competition at the 20th annual Children of Fallen Patriots NHRA Route 66 Nationals presented by K&N from the No. 10 spot.
On Friday, Johnson powered his Marathon Petroleum Co./J&J Racing Dodge Dart to a solid 6.668-second pass at 206.51 mph. In the night session later that evening, Johnson made a big improvement by over four-thousandths of a second when he drove the Marathon Petroleum Dart across the Route 66 Raceway finish line with a 6.620, 208.36.
Saturday, he once again improved his qualifying efforts with a 6.612, 208.75. For the final session, the Adam Hornberger-led team showed their consistency with a 6.610, 209.82.
“We got better every run and the car is working good,” Johnson said. “We just are trying to figure out how to matchup with those top two or three guys. They’re killing us in the first eighth mile of the track but we’re right with them in the second half of the track. If we can figure out how to pick up in the front half of the track, we can be right there with them the whole time.”
No. 10 will take on No. 7 Vincent Nobile in the first round of eliminations tomorrow morning.
“I think both lanes will be pretty even tomorrow,” he added. “I feel good and we’ve got something to tune off of. I think we’ve got a good setup for a hot racetrack tomorrow and let’s see if we can’t make the track come to us tomorrow.”
