Team Liberty Racing Recap: Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

June 25, 2017

NORWALK, Ohio (June 26, 2017) – Team Liberty Racing competed this weekend at the 11th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Parks.
Cory Reed began raceday from the No. 9 spot and had a first round matchup against Mike Berry. In eliminations, Reed staged his PSE/Team Liberty Victory Magnum against Berry and crossed the finish line with a 6.991-second pass at 189.31 mph but wasn’t able to outrun Berry’s slightly quicker 6.950, 192.22.
“We’re trying some new stuff to see what will work and it seems to be going in a good direction,” Reed said. “We closed the gap this weekend. We’re right there with all of them and for a new team, that’s really cool. It’s another step forward. We’ll start getting those round wins soon.”
Angelle Sampey qualified No. 12 after four rounds of qualifying at the NHRA Nationals and faced up against Scotty Pollacheck in the first round. Sampey was ready to get a starting line advantage over Pollacheck and went a mere -.003-seconds red at the launch, turning the win light on in Pollacheck’s lane. Sampey lifted early and clocked in with a 7.195, 153.44.
“The .003 red opened the wound and him being a little late on the tree poured the salt in the wound,” Sampey confessed. “I went out there first round wanting to chop down the tree and I knew I needed to with the crosswind today. Being in the right lane with a left to right crosswind, I knew I had to get the jump on him so I had room to move on the bike if needed but I just reacted a little too quickly. I’m not upset with myself, though, because I was trying my best.”
The next event for Team Liberty Racing will be at the Fallen Patriots Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by K&N at Route 66 Raceway. Qualifying begins on July 6th, 2017 at the Chicago, Ill.-based track.
