Team Liberty Racing Qualifying Report: NHRA Summernationals

June 10, 2017

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 10, 2017) – Team Liberty Racing had an eventful four rounds of qualifying at the 48th annual NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park but the duo was able to qualify both Victory Magnums in the uber-competitive NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle field to compete for raceday.

On Friday, Cory Reed began Team Liberty Racing’s qualifying effort with a solid 6.895-seconds at 190.51 mph. Angelle Sampey ran a troubled 7.137, 152.55 after having engine problems. For the evening session, Reed clocked in with a 6.912, 191.62 while Sampey was unable to repair her engine in time to compete in the second session.

Saturday, Sampey came out with a much-improved 6.879, 192.33 that qualified her in the No. 12 spot and Reed followed behind with a slowed 6.947, 189.55. To close out the day, Reed reached the top end with a 6.967, 189.82 that would land him in the No. 13 seed and Sampey slowed to a 6.929, 189.82.

“We couldn’t fix it in time last night so there was no run to be made,” Sampey said. “I was a little scared because we only had that one spare in the trailer and it’s just a stock engine. Fortunately, we were able to take the good parts off the broken motor and put them on the spare to run today. I’m really thankful we qualified on the third session because our run in Q4 wouldn’t have made it in the show.”

In the first round tomorrow morning, Reed will take on Jerry Savoie and Sampey will take on Scotty Pollacheck. With the highest temperatures of the weekend predicted tomorrow, it can be anyone’s ballgame.

“What’s important about tomorrow is everyone has to deal with the heat,” Reed said. “The heat doesn’t bother me and I just have to go out there and do what I do best and that’s all I can hope for. I feel confident about our T
