CONCORD, N.C. (May 2, 2017) – Angelle Sampey and Team Liberty Racing (TLR) joined Terry Chandler, Tommy Johnson Jr., and Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) in granting nine-year-old Christopher Michaelson’s wish of becoming a Pro Stock Motorcycle racer at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.

Michaelson, from Bellingham, Washington, suffers from Batten’s Disease and is visually impaired but has a deep love for NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle. Sampey and Team Liberty Racing were asked to join Chandler and the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant Michaelson’s wish and they jumped on the opportunity. For his wish, Bates Custom Leathers donated a custom race suit for Michaelson that was equipped with his name and the Make-A-Wish logo on the back. Impact Racing Helmets donated a custom-painted helmet to match Tommy Johnson Jr.’s Funny Car helmet and he had slick racing shoes and gloves to boot.

After he was race-ready, Michaelson climbed up and took a seat at the controls of the Team Liberty Racing Victory Magnum. With the assistance of TLR’s co-crew chief Chris Rivas, they fired up the motorcycle and Michaelson was able to rev up the engine with the guidance of Sampey. “Meeting Christopher and granting his wish was one of the most special moments of my life,” Sampey said. “I fell in love with him and his beautiful family. It’s moments like this that remind me how blessed I am. Fulfilling this wish for Christopher completely warmed my heart. I plan to stay in touch with the family and hope they visit Team Liberty Racing again soon. I’d like to give a special thank you to Bates Custom Leathers for the fantastic job they did, as well as Impact Racing Helmets for finishing off this wish to perfection.” "Christopher was just a cool kid and to be part of granting his wish was an honor," Johnson said. "I can't thank the NHRA community of racers enough and for Angelle helping out to grant his wish of being a Pro Stock Motorcycle racer and everyone who helped make it all happen and to Terry for all she does for Make-A-Wish and the kids.” The Wish was granted by Terry Chandler who funds the Make-A-Wish car as well as Don Schumacher Racing's Infinite Hero Foundation car driven by Jack Beckman.
