Team Liberty Racing NHRA Four-Wide Nationals Qualifying Report

April 29, 2017

CONCORD, N.C. (April 29, 2017) – Team Liberty Racing teammates Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey qualified both of their Victory Magnum motorcycles in the uber-competitive NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class this weekend for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.

On Friday, team owner and rider Reed started the team out strong with a 6.928-second pass at 192.14 mph. Sampey had transmission trouble with her bike and she ran a 16.450, 25.68. In the Friday evening session, Sampey improved with a 10.155, 80.88 and Reed slowed to a 7.070, 158.56.

On Saturday, Sampey clocked with a 7.105, 187.18 in the third session and found herself on the outside looking in with one run left to get in the field. Reed followed behind her with a stout 6.895, 191.95 in the heat of the day.

In the final session of the day, Reed closed out qualifying with a 7.242, 153.58 after drifting out of the groove. With tensions high, Sampey made her final run. She rode it right down the middle of the groove at zMAX DRAGWAY and made it into the field with a 6.948, 192.88.

“It’s so much fun to make it into the show on the last run after the fact but before the run, it sucks big time,” Sampey said. “I don’t want to do that anymore. I want to get in the first or second run. We had all those transmission issues yesterday and we stayed up until 3 a.m. to fix it and its fixed. Like I said, it’s fun to build up the drama after you get in the field but it was stressful before that last session.”

Reed ended qualifying in the No. 11 spot and Sampey qualified No. 14. The duo will race against Andrew Hines and Hector Arana in the first round of eliminations tomorrow.

“I think we’re running good,” Reed added. “I was surprised it was such a challenge to get Angelle qualified but we got her in; that was definitely a stressful issue. That was what my 2016 year was like at the beginning so I understand. Angelle and I are in the same quad tomorrow and I think we can be the top two and get it done into the next round.”
