AUBURN, Wash. (November 8, 2016) – It’s the final race of the 2016 Mello Yello Drag Racing season and it seems that Pro Stock’s Aaron Strong is returning to Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with a calmer presence than he did in February. Competing at the 52nd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals is a prestigious honor and it also serves as Strong’s sponsor, A&J Furniture Manufacturing’s home track.
“Pomona is A&J Furniture Manufacturing’s home track,” Strong said. “They’re from Lynwood, California and they’re super excited to see us race. They’re coming out for final qualifying on Saturday and I hope we can end this season on a high note for them.”
As the season comes to a close, Strong reflects back on what has turned out to be an incredible rookie season in the class.
“When we were here in February, I think the whole class was kind of worried about the fuel-injection,” he admitted. “Our team was really paranoid because we didn’t know which team would be fast and if the car was gonna start or not. We’re coming back to Pomona in a different boat, thankfully. We had that huge Seattle win this summer and now we’re coming back to Pomona with a more confident setup compared to nine months ago.”
“We have had a gremlin in the car the last three races and I plan on going to Pomona early on Wednesday to go over the car and throw the kitchen sink at it,” he laughed. “If we can get the gremlins taken care of, I think we should be able to qualify in the middle to the top half of the pack no problem. That’d be a huge weight lifted off our shoulders and then we can go into Sunday knowing we can go rounds for our sponsors on raceday.”
