LAS VEGAS (October 30th) – On raceday at the 16th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals, the PSE/Star Racing team had a shorter than expected weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Angelle Sampey fell in the first round to teammate Cory Reed and Reed wasn’t able to advance out of the second round.
In the first round, Reed and Sampey raced each other. At the launch, Reed had an .048-thousandths advantage over Sampey and he was able to drive that advantage all the way to the finish line. Sampey clocked in with a quick 6.978-second pass at 191.59 while Reed clocked in with a slower but winning 6.993, 190.32.
In the second round, Reed’s bike experienced mechanical issues and caused him to slow to a 7.141,186.56 giving the win to Matt Smith who ran 6.992, 190.81.
“It was a good weekend overall,” Reed said. “At least we got a few rounds this weekend and I finally made it into the six second area here.”
“I realized at the top end after first round that the championship was officially out of reach and I was pretty upset about it,” Sampey said. “But now that’s off my shoulders, I can go out there and have fun and try to win in Pomona.”
