Rookie Seattle Winner Aaron Strong Makes Pro Stock Field in Vegas
LAS VEGAS (October 29th, 2016) – Rookie of the Year candidate Aaron Strong made the uber-competitive Pro Stock field at the 16th annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Strong will start raceday in the No. 16 spot. On Friday, Strong clocked in with a 6.774-second pass at 203.58 mph. He returned in his emerald green Chevrolet Camaro and ran an improved 6.756, 203.65 in the second session. In Saturday first session, Strong improved his qualifying time once again with a 6.752, 203.03. Strong closed out qualifying with a solid 6.771, 203.61 and ended up in the No. 16 spot. “That’s the first time I’ve worried about qualifying since racing Pro Stock,” Strong laughed. “We were a little nervous sitting No. 15. Shane Tucker wasn’t in and he was in front of us and when he got in the field, that made us the bump spot. Alan Prusiensky was the only person that could bump me out and he was running the pair in front of me; I was pretty nervous. We were happy to get in for sure.” Strong will face No. 1 qualifier Greg Anderson in the first round of eliminations. This duo has only raced one other time this season and that was when Strong defeated Anderson on his way to this very first career Pro Stock win. “We did the engine swap tonight to prepare for raceday,” he added. “We’ve got nothing to lose and he’s got everything to lose.” Eliminations begin tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. beginning with Top Fuel.
