AMERICUS, GA. (October 12, 2016) – Precision Service Equipment/Star Racing Buell teammates Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey will compete at Texas Motorplex this weekend for the 31st annual AAA FallNationals. With three races left on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour, it is crucial that the team goes rounds on raceday to be as high in points as they can be to potentially win a Pro Stock Motorcycle World Championship.
Coming off his first final round at the last race in Reading, Pennsylvania, Cory Reed is continuing to show why he is a strong frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award at the end of 2016. Recognizing the momentum on his side and entering this race No. 7 in the point standings, Reed has made a few new goals for himself to finish the year out strong.
“My biggest goal is to win a race before the end of this year,” Reed said. “My mom [Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Annie Whiteley] and dad [Pro Mod racer Jim Whiteley] have always been big on sportsmanship my whole life so I try not to be too hard on myself but I really want to get that win before the season is over. My other goal for the final three races is to make it to the semifinals or better every race. I feel if I make it to the semifinals, I’m doing my job or the bike is hauling the mail or it’s a combination of both. I think it’s a doable goal.”
Three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle World Champion Angelle Sampey has yet to win at Texas Motorplex but has been to the finals twice, most recently in 2000.
“I want to win for sure one more time,” Sampey said. “I go to every race wanting to win but now that I only have three chances left this year, I’m really hoping to win at least one more. Beyond that, it’s really important that I stick with the basics and stay focused. I’m trying my best to not look at the points and just take it one round at a time.”
