READING, Pa. (October 1, 2016) – Similar to last year, raceday will proceed tomorrow with only one round of qualifying to set the ladder. PSE/Star Racing teammates Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey are starting raceday in unfamiliar territory as they both are in the bottom half after engine problems plagued their runs on their one and only qualifying session.
Friday’s two sessions were wiped out by rain so Sampey and Reed came back on Saturday morning hoping the weather would hold off to get in at least one session. On Saturday’s first qualifying run, Reed launched and his Buell went straight down the boulevard until his bike wouldn’t shift into fifth gear; Reed clocked in with a 7.280-second pass at 146.40 mph. Sampey followed after and her bike neglected to shift at half track and she coasted to a 9.986, 81.35. Directly after the session, mother nature returned with the rain and the final qualifying session was cancelled and the ladder in Pro Stock Motorcycle was set.
“The bike wouldn’t shift into third gear,” Sampey said. “We’ve got a brand new transmission in it. Nothing like going into first round not knowing what’s gonna happen! Our first round against Eddie will be exciting as far as the points are concerned.”
“Most of the testing we’ve done in my bike has been in colder weather so I’m feeling confident going into tomorrow,” Reed said. “I think we have a good setup for tomorrow. George is the man at finding the right spot on the track to make us go fast.”
First round is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2nd starting with Top Fuel.
