Indy Winner Chris McGaha’s Performance Peaking at Right Time Heading into NHRA Carolina Nationals

ODESSA, Tex. (September 14, 2016) – What a race it was. Chris McGaha has been competing in the NHRA Pro Stock category for five years and surprisingly, he had never gotten out of first round at Indy before two weeks ago. Not only did McGaha drive his way into the second round, he turned on four total win lights on the way to his huge U.S Nationals win. McGaha experienced a trying middle section of his regular season but has peaked at the right time as he heads into the first race of the Countdown at the Ninth annual NHRA Carolina Nationals. “Winning Indy still hasn’t sunk in,” McGaha admitted. “The U.S. Nationals is a big deal and to bring it home for Chevrolet was the best part.” McGaha serves as the driver and crew chief on his Harlow Sammons Chevrolet Camaro. Winning the last race before heading into the Countdown is the exact momentum he needed as a driver and tuner. Six races are left before the Pro Stock World Champion is crowned and McGaha is confident that he’s arrived at the right tuning combination to win more races in the Countdown. “I guarantee any team that does well in the regular season would trade those races for the win at Indy because it’s such a big race and it’s right before the Countdown,” he added. Qualifying at the Ninth annual NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway begins with two qualifying sessions on Friday, September 16th at 3:15 and 5:30 p.m. (ET). Qualifying will continue on Saturday, September 17th with two more qualifying sessions at 12:45 and 3:00 p.m. (ET). Eliminations for the NHRA Carolina Nationals will be held on Sunday, September 18th at 12:00 p.m. starting with Top Fuel. "In the last week and a half, I've tried really hard not to mess with the car since we just won Indy," he added. "We'll just head straight to Charlotte and hopefully keep this momentum rolling."
