LUCAS OIL RACEWAY AT INDIANAPOLIS
Cory Reed Taking Fate into His Own Hands with Important First Round Matchup
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 4, 2016) – Precision Service Equipment/Star Racing rider Cory Reed couldn’t have drawn up a better first round matchup if he tried. In the 13th spot in points, Reed needs to go rounds on raceday at the 62nd annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals. Reed will be able to take his fate into his own hands with a first round matchup with Steve Johnson who is currently 10th in points.
Reed began qualifying with a career best elapsed time when he ran a 6.870-seconds at 192.66 mph.
For Saturday’s first session, Reed clocked in with a 6.901, 193.52 in the heat of the day. Reed came back in the third qualifying session and improved with a 6.895, 193.63.
Normally, Sunday means raceday but not at the U.S. Nationals. Qualifying continued on Sunday when Reed finished up with a 6.868, 194.41 and a 6.881, 196.07; that 196.07 was his career best mph as well. He qualified No. 8 and will have lane choice over No. 9 Steve Johnson.
“I think of Indy as just another race,” Reed said. “I just need to focus. I really want to win first round because that’ll be crucial in order to get into the Countdown. I need to go one more round than three other races in order to get into the top ten and run for the Championship.”
