JOLIET, Ill. (July 10, 2016) – Coming into raceday in the No. 5 position, Marathon Petroleum Co./J&J Racing Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson drove his Dodge Dart to the second round of eliminations.
Johnson staged his red, white and blue racing machine in the first round with lane choice over his competition Kenny Delco. As the two got up on the two-step and let out the clutch, Johnson had .033-seconds advantage over Delco. Johnson clocked in with a 6.649-second pass at 208.91 mph over Delco’s 6.670, 207.82 and inked his name on the ladder for second round.
In the second round, Johnson continued his job behind the wheel when he had .011-seconds advantage over Greg Anderson in the second round. He clocked in with a 6.647, 208.97 but came up a little short to Anderson’s 6.615, 208.78.
“Lane choice bit us in the second round,” Johnson admitted. “We just didn’t run how we should’ve in the first round and that caused us to lose lane choice. The right lane had some bald spots but we were the fastest car in that lane that round. We’ve got a very consistent Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart but we kind of let the car get away from us and we paid for it by losing lane choice in second round.”
Johnson and the Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing team heads to Denver this week to do some testing before the Mopar Mile High Nationals in two short weeks.
“We can run better than we showed today,” he added. “We’ll test for three days in Denver in the next week and hopefully that Denver magic will come our way at the next race!”
