Untimely Red Light Ends Angelle Sampey’s Day at NHRA Four-Wide Nationals

CONCORD, N.C. (April 24, 2016) – Angelle Sampey went to the second round of eliminations at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals presented by Lowes Foods before a red light halted Sampey’s consistency and potential for domination over the rest of the Pro Stock Motorcycle field.

Sampey had a first round quad matchup against Shawn Gann, Karen Stoffer and Hector Arana Sr. Arana crossed the finish line first with a 6.836-second pass at 196.56 mph and Sampey wasn’t far behind with a 6.861, 193.96. Sampey and Arana advanced to the next round over Stoffer and Gann.

In the second round, Sampey reset her best career elapsed time for the second time of the weekend with a 6.831, 196.27. She also ran the quickest of her quad but didn’t turn on the win light because of her .003-second red light at the hit.

“It’s hard to lose when you know you lost because you were too fast on the starting line,” said Sampey. “I saw the red when I launched and I was extremely disappointed but I didn’t know what I ran until my team told me.”

Although their raceday ended prematurely, Sampey continues to make strides with her Precision Service Equipment/ Star Racing team.

“At this point, I have so much confidence in my team and my bike. I don’t think I could be more confident with everything so far. I’m very proud of myself and I know I’m doing a good job; I’m just trying not to get frustrated with myself for that close red light.”

As the winningest female in NHRA history, Sampey has a lot of experience under her belt to put towards many race wins in the future. The next event for Sampey and her teammate Cory Reed will be at Atlanta Dragway for the Summit Racing Equipment Summer Nationals on May 13-15, 2016.
