Star Racing Qualifying Report: NHRA Four-Wide Nationals

CONCORD, N.C. (April 23, 2016) – Angelle Sampey rode her Precision Service Equipment/ Star Racing Buell to the No. 3 spot after two days of qualifying at the Sixth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals presented by Lowes Foods. In Friday’s first session, Angelle clocked in with a 6.856-second pass at 193.38 mph. Persistent rainfall caused Friday’s late session to be cancelled. With sunshine greeting the team on Saturday’s early qualifying run, Sampey was able to reset her career best with a 6.837, 194.46 and also collected one bonus point for being the third fastest of the round. For the final round of qualifying, Sampey crossed the finish line after shutting off early with a 6.925, 174.03. “I didn’t realize we got any bonus points on the second qualifying run,” said Sampey. “Those bonus points are very important. Every little bitty point is important at the end of the season.” Sampey heads into first round in the No. 3 spot with a first round quad consisting of Shawn Gann, Hector Arana Sr., and Karen Stoffer. In this unique-style race, Sampey admitted that come raceday, she will be more focused on her own lane than the competitors in the other three lanes. “At this race, it doesn’t matter if Kenny Berstein or Steven Tyler from Aerosmith are in the other lanes,” laughed Sampey. “The Four-Wide is so different, especially with staging, that it kind of takes the pressure off of who you’re racing.” “I just hope I can keep the staging process as uncomplicated as possible in my brain. I’m very excited about our potential.” Sampey’s teammate Cory Reed posted a quickest pass of 6.946-seconds at 189.47 mph but unfortunately qualified No. 19 and will not compete for the Wally on Sunday.
