EVENT PREVIEW: SIXTH ANNUAL NHRA FOUR-WIDE NATIONALS PRESENTED BY LOWES FOODS
Shane Tucker Enters First Four-Wide Raceday
CONCORD, N.C. (April 23, 2016) – Auzmet Architectural Pro Stock driver Shane Tucker enters raceday with almost a sigh of relief after all the action that has happened in his pits so far at the Sixth annual NHRA Four-Wide Nationals presented by Lowes Foods. Tucker made the Pro Stock field today when he qualified No. 16 for his first national event since 2014.
After experiencing engine issues on Tuesday before the race, Tucker’s Denver, North Carolina-based team wanted to make sure the engine was in it’s best shape before they brought it to the track. Tucker missed the first session of qualifying on Friday due to the engine still being in Denver on the dyno. Friday’slate session was cancelled due to rain and served as a blessing in disguise for the Australian racer.
In true last-minute fashion, Tucker received his motor on Saturday morning in the back of a truck bed and it was hoisted into their pits with a forklift operated by the staff at zMAX Dragway just a few hours before Q2. Once the engine was assembled and warmed up, Tucker was ready to hit the track for the first time at the Four-Wide and with fuel injection.
In Saturday’s first session, Tucker drove his Chevrolet Camaro to a 6.877-second pass at 198.88 mph in the face of issues with the tune-up and the car losing ignition. On the final qualifying run, battery issues plagued the run and Tucker wasn’t able to complete the run.
Tucker qualified No. 16 heading into raceday at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals. He hasn’t raced the quad-style race before but Shane’s dad Rob remains confident that they can do well tomorrow.
“We can tree those guys tomorrow,” said Rob Tucker. “We only need to be the first two to cross the finish line. I think it’s got a 68 in it. After Shane did his first burnout, we were told it was one of the best first burnouts with the new fuel injection that they’ve seen. I think the car will run really good tomorrow.”
