ALLEN JOHNSON MARATHON PETROLEUM CO./J&J RACING DODGE DART ELIMINATIONS REPORT – CIRCLE K NHRA WINTERNATIONALS AUTO CLUB RACEWAY AT POMONA FEBRUARY 12-15, 2016

Gremlins Cut Allen Johnson’s Day Short at Circle K NHRA Winternationals

POMONA, Calif. (February 14, 2016) – Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Pro Stock Driver Allen Johnson made it to the second round of eliminations at the Circle K NHRA Winternationals before an unfortunate new setup mechanical issue ended his day early. In the first round of eliminations, Johnson matched up with Alex Laughlin. Johnson had a substantial starting line advantage on Laughlin by over 60-thousandths of a second. Laughlin experienced tire shake in the early part of the racetrack and although Johnson’s car had its own mechanical issues down track, he was able to turn on the win light in his lane with a 8.381-second pass at 115.66 mph. In the second round, Johnson pulled into the burnout box against 2x Pro Stock World Champion Jason Line. The gremlins in the new car caused the Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart to lose ignition before the burnout and wouldn’t restart again. NHRA Chief Started Mark Lyle gave them time to try to fix the problem but they were unable to get the Dart fired up before the clock ran out, giving Jason Line a bye run to the semifinals. “The car had made awesome runs all weekend,” stated Johnson. “We just couldn’t get it to the finish line today. The gremlins that bit us in first round down track showed up again but in the burnout box.” Turns out, the mechanical issue resulted in a loose wire in the wiring harness. “The new EFI system has a new wiring harness that was made for EFI and it must have a loose ground wire somewhere.” Although trouble with the wiring harness caused their raceday to end prematurely in the second round, Johnson and his team remain optimistic with their Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Pro Stock Dart. “This weekend, we learned a lot of what not to do and that is a very big positive especially with all this new stuff. We found some gremlins; I hope we found all of the gremlins. You can always take a positive out of a negative and that’s the way we try to do things over here.” The next race on the tour will be held at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park on February 26th-28th. The CARQUEST NHRA Nationals qualifying will begin on Friday, February 26th at 1:30 p.m. ALLEN JOHNSON, MARATHON PETROLEUM CO./J&J RACING DODGE DART Qualified: No. 10 ELIMINATIONS First Round: JOHNSON (8.381-second, 115.66 mph) def.
