After Enormous Gains in 2015, Chris McGaha is Energized to Surpass Expectations in 2016

ODESSA, T.X. (February 10, 2016) – The 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season for Chris McGaha and his Harlow Sammons Chevrolet Camaro team was a triumph for the one-car team in Pro Stock. Taking the lessons learned from 2015 and testing this week at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park with the new fuel injection, McGaha is looking forward to heading to Pomona for the Circle K NHRA Winternationals. Since McGaha’s debut in 2011 at the prestigious U.S. Nationals, 2015 was the breakout season McGaha and his team had been working towards. The Odessa, Texas-native powered his Chevrolet Camaro into the final round a total of five times in 2015 and scored three national event wins. His first national event win of his career came at the NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway last summer where he took out top competitors V. Gaines, Erica Enders, Jeg Coughlin and Jonathan Gray on his way to the winner circle. Not only was this McGaha’s first national event win, he went wire-to-wire with a No. 1 qualifying spot at the race. Continuing on the Western Swing, McGaha continued the momentum and accomplished back-to-back wins with his win in Seattle, Washington for the Northwest Nationals. McGaha found himself in the winner circle one more time in 2015 at the Keystone Nationals in Reading, Pennsylvania which landed him fourth in the Pro Stock standings at the conclusion of the season. With a successful season behind him, McGaha had to hit the drawing board during the off-season to implement all the rule changes for the Pro Stock category in 2016. McGaha builds his own Pro Stock engines and supplies his motors to fellow Pro Stock competitors Joey Grose and Deric Kramer. “I can’t even tell you the last time I had a day off to just do nothing. The off-season was brutal,” said McGaha. This week, McGaha and the majority of the Pro Stock class ventured to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park to test before the season opening Circle K NHRA Winternationals. “Testing went good. Actually, it went better than expected because we hadn’t been down the track besides a few burnouts until we got here,” revealed McGaha. “The car is definitely different to drive with the fuel injection on there but I can see myself and others taking to it very quickly. It’s just a matter of getting used to it.” McGaha rounded out a stellar 2015 season and hopes to build on that progression in the 2016 season. “My first goal for 2016 is to win a race on fuel injection. We’ll try to win on fuel injection first and then try win another and then if you start stacking ‘em up, the Championship will come to you.” 56th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals Event Schedule (Times List in Pacific Time Zone) Fri., Feb. 12: Qualifying sessions at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sat., Feb. 13: Qualifying sessions at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sun., Feb. 14: Eliminations begin at 11:00 a.m. NHRA MELLO YELLO DRAG RACING ON FOX SPORTS TELEVISION SCHEDULE (Eastern Time Zone): Friday, Feb. 12, FS1 will televise one hour of qualifying coverage at 10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, FS1 will televise two hours of qualifying coverage at 1 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, FS1 will televise three hours of live finals coverage at 5 p.m.
